Case Studies, Green Energy

Empowering remote wind and solar farms with secure, high-speed connectivity across Ireland with Brdy and Starlink.

Overview:
Bord Na Mona, a leading renewable energy provider in Ireland, partnered with Brdy Telecom to deploy Starlink Enterprise with static IP connectivity across multiple wind and solar sites. Operating in remote regions with limited terrestrial infrastructure, Bord Na Mona needed a modern, scalable connectivity solution to support real-time data, security, and efficiency. The existing VSAT and 4G/LTE connections offered unreliable performance, high latency and limited bandwidth, which hindered SCADA system visibility, secure VPN access and remote site management. Dynamic IP addressing also complicated cybersecurity protocols and network consistency.

The solution:
Brdy implemented Starlink Enterprise antennas at each site, delivering low-latency (<60 ms) high-speed broadband. Each location received a unique static IP address, enabling:
• Secure VPN access and centralised network management
• Real-time telemetry and SCADA data transfer
• Reliable IoT and monitoring integration

The results:
• Speed: 220 Mbps download/25 Mbps upload
• Latency: Reduced from 650 ms to 60 ms
• Uptime: 99.5% achieved
• Costs: 40% lower than legacy satellite systems

Key benefits:
• Real-time operational visibility and improved forecasting
• Stronger cybersecurity through static IP-based firewall rules
• Reduced downtime with remote diagnostics and updates
• Rapid scalability for future site rollouts
• Lower carbon footprint via reduced engineer travel

Starlink Enterprise by Brdy has transformed the way we manage our remote operations. The static IP capability provided us with the secure, table infrastructure we needed to centralise monitoring and automate control processes across all our renewable energy assets.”
